10 Obscure Films You Should See...

...if you can find them:

The Spanish Prisoner (1997)
The Milagro Beanfield War (1988)
Mystery Train (1989)
The Vanishing*
Welcome to the Dollhouse (1995)
Parents (1989)
Mute Witness (1994)
11:14
The Sea (2002, from Iceland by director Baltasar Kormakar)
Ghost World (2001)

* I am referring to the 1988 original Dutch movie (in Dutch, "Spoorloos"). There is an American remake that is a total piece of crap. Don't even bother with that one, seek out the original.

I started out one for one but after the Spanish Prisoner, I've only seen clips (although I've read Ghost World). Mute Witness didn't impress me enough to see the whole thing but all of the others are on the To See list.

Ha... I guess you never know... I saw Mute Witness with my gf and we were both on the edge of our seats the whole time.

Welcome to the Dollhouse is a great film that I haven't even thought about for something like 10 years. Thanks for reminding me. I think I will try to make my wife watch it with me this weekend.

Netflix finally has Spoorlos after several years of waiting. It's quite good and the ending definitely more shocking than the remake.

But, you know what, I saw the Kiefer Sutherland remake when I was younger and I really like it. I still like it. Oh well.

Another original vs. remake that I just thought of is Vanilla Sky which is a remake of a far superior (IMO) Spanish original called Obre sus ojos (Open Your Eyes).
