High Fructose Urine Screw-up

From Environmental Health News:

Drinking sugary soda is linked to kidney disease, most likely due to the high fructose corn syrup that sweetens the drinks.

The interesting part:

The strongest risk was associated with lower weight women and with drinking non-cola sodas.

And women get the short stick again:

No association was found with men...

In a nutshell: if you must drink two or more sodas a day, drink diet. Or get a sex-change operation.

how about those commercials promoting HFCS being ok for you inmoderation because it's simply made from corn and thus somehow all natural, DESPITE it genetic altering? good stuff, man.
next they're going to convince us red dye #40 doesn't lead to hyperactivity and yellow #5 hasn't been linked to sterilization and impotence in men.
and just so everyone knows HFCS has been shown to inhibit the receptor in your brain that tells your belly you are full and to stop eating...

Wait, if I get a sex change operation, won't that put me at risk? Because otherwise, I would so do it.

There was a great article this week in USA Today about new research pertaining to high fructose corn syrup. Check it out here: http://www.usatoday.com/news/health/2008-12-08-fructose-corn-syrup_N.htm

Wow. Someone (Liz perhaps?) at the CRA spends an awful lot of time Googling.

Whew... I only drink diet. But I typically drink soda mixed in a 1 to 1 combination with bourbon or rum. So my kidneys are probably safe... it's just my liver that should be worried.

(PS my word verification is wizint. Seriously.)

I used to mix Sobe orange-carrot with club soda in a 2:1 ratio. This made it fizzy (Sobe isn't carbonated) and diluted the sugars to a reasonable level. Good stuff!
